Attendance

Punctual and regular attendance is expected of each student enrolled. The Ottley Music School has high attendance records. However, it is necessary to address absences. There are only two types of absences.

EXCUSED ABSENCE.

  • Planned. Please notify the teacher by Friday for Monday students, and at least 24 hours in advance for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday students.

  • Student illness. Please call the teach- er in the morning by 7:30 a.m.. If illness happens during the day, parent or student notifies teacher ASAP or leaves a message on the teacher's answering service.

  • Parent chauffer illness. Please notify the teacher in the morning by 7:30 a.m. or ASAP if sudden illness at work.

  • Snow Days or Severe Weather. In bad weather, please call the studio before your lesson time. Some teachers can teach some students by phone. Bad weather is not necessarily an excused weather reason.

UN-EXCUSED ABSENCE.

The student does not attend lessons nor has the teacher been notified. Some samples of unexcused absences:

  • The car broke down (last night), we forgot to call.

  • I didn't get enough practice.

  • We didn't realize what day it was.

  • We had a doctor's appointment. With 6 other days in the week, and 22 other hours on the lesson day, seems as if the appointment could be some other time than the lesson time.

  • Dad/Mom had to work late. Some piano students can have the lesson over the phone

  • Soccer / Ballet / Tap / Baseball / Karate practice was out late......etc.. ETC.

After 26 years in the business, we've heard them all!. Unexcused absences are not made up not credited.
